Job Description

*This position requires an active Armed North Carolina Private Protective Security Board (NCPPSB) security license.*

Shifts:
  • Full-Time, Monday-Friday, 1600-2400
  • Part-Time, Saturdays, 0800-1600
  • Part-Time, Sundays, 1200-2400
The Security Guard's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Maintain a Logbook and record any unusual events, incidents, or other significant information. Patrols and post duties shall also be logged. This information should be logged electronically and submitted to the County Project Manager for review daily.
  • Maintain routine communications with Security Operations Center and Supervisory Patrols.
  • Direct all deliveries to appropriate personnel.
  • Accept found articles and follow SOP for handling lost and found items.
  • Escort employees to their vehicles if requested (as appropriate if on County property).
  • Issue visitor passes to all contractors working in the building as required by the County Project Manager.
  • Check all doors at beginning and end of shift to ensure doors are secured and functioning properly.
  • Assist Security Operations Center with testing/validating performance of electronic security systems installed in facility (e.g., annual, semi-annual security system tests).
  • Be proactive and cover an assignment at a fixed post or patrol an area or facility for the purpose of deterring, preventing, and detecting individuals or groups from committing acts which are injurious to others or to property. Security Personnel should always be on alert while on shift, and should observe everything that takes place within sight or hearing.
  • Intervene to terminate injurious acts and detain, provided such detainment is legally permissible. If individuals are needed for further investigation, where circumstances and conditions warrant, such detention is legally permissible.
  • Maintain law and order within the area of assignment.
  • Conduct patrols in accordance with routes and schedules established by the County Project Manager.
  • Respond to security incidents, report sick or injured persons, and notify appropriate authorities. Notify Supervisor and/or Security Operations Center when appropriate without delaying emergency response.
  • Report safety hazards, malfunctioning equipment, spills, and other such matters to the attention of maintenance. Report potentially hazardous conditions and items in need of repair to maintenance.
  • Investigate questionable acts or behaviors observed or reported on County premises and question witnesses and suspects to ascertain or verify facts and notify authorities if warranted.
  • Maintain order and use good judgment and discretion in handling unruly customers or trespassing public.
  • Maintaining a presence within the front lobby when not on patrol, providing appropriate information to visitors to the facility.
Physical Requirements:

Must be in good physical condition to perform the essential duties of the position.
  • Able to sit, stand or walk for the entire tour of the shift (8+ hours)
  • Able to climb five flights of stairs
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds
Qualifications:
  • Must be a minimum age of 21 years of age
  • Must be a High School graduate or possess a General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
  • Must have a valid and current North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License.
  • Must be licensed in an ARMED capacity and in accordance with North Carolina General Statute, Chapter 74C - Private Protective Services (NCPPSB).
  • Having a positive and professional relationship with the supervisory staff and the client.
  • Must have at least two years of security experience (may have occurred while serving in bullets below) and at least one (1) year of the following:
    • US military experience with an honorable discharge (DD-214 required),
    • Police Officer experience
    • Correctional Officer experience
    • Probation Officer experience
    • Exceptional communication skills, verbally and written to all levels of management.
    • OR 3 years of verifiable, positive private security experience.
    • OR 3 years of verifiable, positive experience in one of the following:
      • US military experience with an honorable discharge (DD214 required).
      • Police Officer experience
      • Correctional Officer experience
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and be able to exercise courtesy, tact and diplomacy in daily contact with County employees, customers and visitors.
  • Must have an acceptable North Carolina Private Protective Services Board criminal history check that does not contain records with criminal history for which the individual was indicted on felony-level charges or convictions of offenses against moral turpitude.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly (verbally, writing, and reading) in English. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred.
