The New York Post is looking for a City Hall Reporter (M-F) to keep a close eye on the mayor's office, City Council, and the political forces shaping the city.


This role isn't for the faint of heart-we need a reporter who can hustle for scoops, ask the tough questions, and break exclusive stories that keep New Yorkers informed. If you thrive in a

+ Coverthemayor'soffice,CityCouncil,andkeycityagenciesanddepartments-including the Department of Education and the MTA - with a sharp, critical eye.


+ RegularlyworkfromCityHallandcultivateadeepnetworkofgovernmentsources.


+ Breakexclusivestoriesthatholdcityleadersaccountableandsetthenewsagenda.


+ Translatecomplexpolicy,budgets,andgovernmentdecisionsintocompelling,clear stories.


+ Filebreakingnewsquickly,accurately,andconciselyundertightdeadlines.


+ Leverage SEO and social media best practices to expand audience reach.


+ Collaboratewitheditorsandotherreportersoninvestigativeprojectsandenterprise stories.


Requirements:


+ Atleast1yearofexperiencereportingonlocalpoliticsorgovernment.


+ UnderstandingofNewYorkCityHall,themayor'soffice,andcitypolitics.


+ Theskillstodevelopdeepandreliablesourcesincitygovernment.


+ Anosefornews,withthedrivetobreakexclusivestories.


+ Strongwritingskills-abletoturndrygovernmentreportsintomust-readjournalism.


+ Abilitytothriveunderpressureinafast-paced,deadline-drivennewsroom.


+ Experience with WordPress and knowledge of SEO and social media best practices.


+ Willingnesstoworkflexiblehours,includingearlymorningsandoccasionalweekends.


_Note: This role requires on-site reporting from New York City Hall four days a_ _week._

Pay Range: $60,000 - $65,000
