A survey crew chief manages a survey crew that collects data and performs measurements for construction, land use planning, and more. They work in the field and office, and ensure that data is collected and reported correctly. 

Responsibilities 

• Maintain and care for surveying instruments

• Update data and maintain vehicles

• Research support documentation

• Create reports

• Train and instruct survey crew members

• Ensure survey work meets project requirements

• Maintain quality control

• Lead and supervise survey crews
• Perform surveys, such as boundary, topographic, and construction staking
• Locate property corners and lines
• Establish lines and grades for construction

Skills and requirements 

• Ability to read and interpret maps, drawings, and data

• Ability to work in all weather conditions

• Ability to lift and move heavy equipment

• Ability to travel regionally and nationally

• Ability to work overtime

• Valid driver's license

• Knowledge of robotic and GPS equipment

• Knowledge of IDOT Standards and Code lists
