QPC Visitation/Coaching Staff

POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the QPC Program Manager, as part of the QPC team, the Visitation/Coaching staff assigned to Quality Parenting Center (QPC) will be responsible for supervising visits between biological parents/caregivers and their children. The supervised visits will be done in accordance with the QPC model endorsed by the DCF. Staff will be responsible for the pre/post meeting, the real-time coaching of parents, and all necessary documentation. The QPC is a community based service, using a parent empowerment model, serving DCF involved families who have had their children removed and placed in foster or relative/kinship care. The QPC is a supervised visitation model. The position requires considerable knowledge of child welfare/CPS practices, dynamics, legal issues, and support systems. Visitation/Coaching Staff will participate in all trainings provided by DCF for the QPC model.

Accountable and responsible for the following results:

  • Visiting coaches will be responsible for the facilitation of all child/parent visits post DCF removal.
  • Responsible for pre and post meeting requirements such as reaching agreements, and ensuring the child’s needs are met during all visits.
  • Responsible for preparing parents for their child’s reactions to visits and preparing them for appropriate interactions.
  • Will coach parents in real time during visits, acknowledging parents strengthens in responding to their children, and will coach to improve skills.
  • Helps parents deal with their feelings post and pre visits.
  • Responsible for developing visitation plans for each visit in conjunction with DCF.
  • Documents visits using the prescribed narrative format.
  • Develops visit goals with parents, caregivers and DCF.
  • Facilitates the discharge meeting/visit once a permanency goal is achieved.
  • Successfully completes CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) training and performs physical restraints with individuals as a last resort when needed.
  • Maintains all required agency mandatory trainings.
  • Participates in staff and departmental meetings, in-service training programs, and attends meetings as required, workshops, and conferences. Effectively utilizes supervision
  • Maintains appropriate personal boundaries with young people and families served at The Children's Center of Hamden. Adheres to The Children’s Center of Hamden’s Boundary Code of Ethics.
  • Performs any other related work assigned.
  • Is aware of the Policy and Procedure Manuals and can access information as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Associates Degree required, Bachelors preferred

CERTIFICATIONS

Possess a valid CT driver’s license with a clean driving record. CPR/1st Aid Certification will be required.
